The Mind Minute: A new idea for New Year Resolutions

New Year’s resolutions are traps to make you feel good for 5 minutes, and then bad for the rest of the year.

They don’t work because your goals are usually excessively difficult and unsustainable.

Instead of just setting goals, start 2019 by setting your internal compass to your values - the kind of person you want to be, not just the stuff you want to achieve but the kinds of qualities you want to show everyday.

Try this quick exercise to get a steer on the kind of person you want to be in 2019.

Imagine vividly in your head that you are at your 80th birthday party (where you obvs look impossibly cool like Iris Apfel/Vanessa Redgrave/Helen Mirren).

The three people closest to you stand up to give a speech. What do you want them to say about you? About the kind of person you are? The kind of qualities you have?

Use your answers to guide you in your actions over the next year. So much better than empty promises about never eating carbs again.
